Where Fred works

Based in Crescent City, Fred covers Putnam County from Palatka down to Seville. If you're near one of these towns, you're on the route.

Crescent City, FL

Putnam County · Same-day service — Fred’s home base

Crescent City sits on the neck of land between Lake Crescent and Lake Stella, and that lakeside air keeps humidity high well into the evening — so AC systems here fight moisture as much as heat. A lot of the housing downtown and along the old US-17 corridor is older, with duct runs and units that predate modern efficiency standards, which makes short-cycling and weak dehumidification common complaints. Out toward Lake Como, Georgetown, and Fruitland you get more homes on well and septic with outdoor condensers taking full afternoon sun off the water. As Fred’s home base, Crescent City is where I know the streets, the older systems, and what it takes to keep a house comfortable through a Bass Capital summer.

Palatka, FL

Putnam County · Same-day for most addresses

Palatka is the county seat and it shows in the housing — block after block of older homes in the South Historic District with original ductwork, retrofitted systems, and the quirks that come with a century-old building trying to hold 72 degrees. Sitting right on the St. Johns River, the town carries heavy humidity, and afternoon storms rolling up the river valley put outdoor units through repeated heat-and-soak cycles. Downtown Palatka also has the county’s densest run of restaurants and small markets, which is where the commercial refrigeration side comes in — a down cooler on a Palatka summer afternoon is an inventory emergency. From the historic district to North Palatka and across the bridge to East Palatka, these are the streets I run most.

Pomona Park, FL

Putnam County · Same-day for most addresses

Pomona Park is small, rural, and quiet — a lot of manufactured and older frame homes strung along US-17 and back toward Lake Broward, most on well and septic. Manufactured homes here typically run package units or tight-clearance split systems, and the ductwork under them takes a beating from moisture and critters, so airflow and drain problems are common. Being off the municipal grid means when the AC quits there’s no quick call to a utility — you need someone who’ll actually drive out. The tree canopy keeps some lots shaded and damp while others bake in open sun, and that mix shows up in how hard each system has to work. It’s a short hop from Crescent City, so Pomona Park is easy for me to reach same-day.

Welaka, FL

Putnam County · Same-day for most addresses

Welaka sits right on the St. Johns River, a fishing town of riverfront homes, fish camps, and cottages where the humidity comes straight off the water. That constant moisture load is hard on AC systems — coils stay damp, drains clog faster, and a marginal unit struggles to pull the house down to a comfortable dew point. Many of the older river cottages and seasonal places have undersized or aging equipment that was never meant to run the long Putnam summers full-time. Salt isn’t the issue here that it is on the coast, but river humidity and organic debris in outdoor condensers are. Whether it’s a year-round home near the Welaka hatchery or a weekend place on the water, I’ll get out and get it cooling.

Interlachen, FL

Putnam County · Same-day when the schedule allows

Interlachen is Putnam’s lake country — dozens of small lakes scattered through rural west-county neighborhoods, with homes spread out on well and septic and a lot of manufactured and older frame construction. The distances out here are exactly why some contractors won’t bother; I will. Homes ringed by lakes and heavy oak canopy deal with high humidity and damp crawl spaces, which shows up as clogged condensate drains, mildew in the ductwork, and systems that never quite dehumidify. Package units and older split systems are common, and many were sized years ago for a smaller, addition-free house. From the lakes off County Road 315 to the outlying stretches toward Florahome, Interlachen is well within the area I cover same-day when I can.

Seville, FL

Volusia County · Serving the southern edge of our area

Seville is the southern edge of my service area, an agricultural community just over the Volusia County line known for its fern and foliage farms. It’s rural country — homes spread along US-17 and the farm roads, most on well and septic, many older or manufactured. The mix of open farmland and dense tree cover makes for wide temperature swings and heavy humidity, and outdoor condensers out here pull in a lot of dust and organic debris from the fields and dirt roads, which chokes airflow and drives up run-times. When I say my area runs from Palatka down to Seville, this is the southern anchor — far enough out that a lot of Palatka shops won’t come, close enough that I will.
